1909 Frankfurt pages updated!

Postby Anders » Sun Aug 25, 2013 12:35 pm

I came across some new photos from the 1909 Frankfurt meeting, so there are some changes on the "Events","Venue" and "Planes" pages.

Photos are still missing for several of the planes, so if you know of any good photos please let us know!

I've managed to lay my hands on another couple of photos, so there are further changes. If you have access to a meeting program or some other reference telling the race numbers used, please let us know!

I recently stumbled over "Denkschrift der ersten internationalen Luftschiffahrts-Ausstellung (ILA) zu Frankfurt a/M. 1909" on Google Books. It contains a complete list of results of the meeting, including several contests that I didn't know of before. This launched me into a general update of the Frankfurt pages - nothing dramatic but lots of little modifications and additions. You will find the pages here!

While writing the biography of Danish pilot Alfred Nervø I found a little booklet about him, published in 1910. It contained a couple of photos from the Frankfurt meeting, among them one that confirmed that the #8 Voisin at that meeting indeed was his machine. I had drawn the conclusion before, but had no proof.

Still only certain about two race numbers from the Frankfurt meeting, though: Baron de Caters' #1 and Nervø's #8. More information would be very welcome!

Nervø's Voisin still carried the Frankfurt race number 8 when flown by new pilot Robert Svendsen in July 1910, see this page!
