1910 Cannes meeting pages launched!

The Grande Semaine d'Aviation de Cannes was held in March-April 1910. It was the first meeting of the European season and the main feature was an 18-kilometre cross-country race across the Golfe de la Napoule, the first of its kind. The big stars were the newcomers Christiaens, Crochon, Edmond and P...

New "Pilot" pages: Armand Zipfel!

Not the most famous or successful pilot, but one of the first: http://www.thefirstairraces.net/pilots/zipfel.php
I once again take the chance to ask if somebody knows of more photos from the Vichy meeting...

"A Brescia oggi si vola" - New book about the 1909 meeting!

Well, perhaps not exactly new, it was published in 2012, but it didn't come under my eyes until recently. http://thefirstairraces.net/stuff/abresciaoggisivola.jpg This is not a simple time-line of the second international air race meeting with some nice photos, but a more academic work in which nine...

I've managed to lay my hands on another couple of photos, so there are further changes. If you have access to a meeting program or some other reference telling the race numbers used, please let us know!

Re: 1910 Los Angeles/Dominguez Meet

According to the book "Orville's Aviators" in the chapter on Howard Gill, the original Gill-Dosh airplane was sold to and flown by Thomas Benoist. I Googled Thomas Benoist and found this picture that is supposed to be him flying the Gill-Dosh. It does appear that it could be. The ailerons...

New photos on the 1909 Doncaster pages!

I laid my hands on an old issue of London Illustrated News, where I found some photos from the Doncaster meeting. I've also added a photo to the Port-Aviation inauguration page.

Re: 1910 Los Angeles/Dominguez Meet

I've looked at all the February 1910 LA meeting photos I could find and I don't believe the Willard #1 photo was taken there. I haven't seen any other photos with similar bushes and trees in the background. http://www.thefirstairraces.net/meetings/la1001/pimages/la1001_01.jpg Anders

Re: 1910 Los Angeles/Dominguez Meet

As far as numbering, I have seen pictures of Willard's plane with 9 and 1. These pictures may or may not be from the same meet.

Do you have any idea of what meeting Willard's Curtiss might have had #1?

Re: Reims 1909 Grande Semaine D'Aviation book?

It's worth 28 cents, that's for sure!

For photos you should definitely choose the Nicolaou book. It's been out of print for while, but it might be possible to find it. The ISBN is 2907341952, I see that I haven't included ISBNs in the list for that meeting.

Re: Reims 1909 Grande Semaine D'Aviation book?

You'll find several on the references page . Honestly, don't bother about the Lieberg book, it gives atmosphere but it's old and confused. It's like listening to an old man telling what he remembers, repeating things that he thinks he remembers, losing the track, and not telling the same thing every...
